FROM THE PEW TO THE PRESENCE: DEMYSTIFYING THE SPIRIT REALM
Spiritual discernment isn't a defensive posture; it’s a love-driven conversation that allows us to see the world through Heaven’s eyes." — Kristen Wambach
A Guest Feature on the Thrive Within Podcast Religion often builds walls where God intended for us to have windows. For many of us, our "evangelical grid" provided a safe structure for our faith, but it frequently lacked the language for the actual experience of the Holy Spirit. We were taught the Logos (the written word) but were left starving for the Rhema (the living, breathed word).
It is time to deconstruct those religious barriers.
|
In my recent conversation on the Thrive Within Podcast with Agatha, we dove deep into what it means to live Spiritually BRAVE in a world that is often terrified of the supernatural. If you have spent years sitting in a pew, hearing about a God who used to do miracles, it is time to deconstruct those religious barriers and step into the Supernatural Reality that is your God-given DNA.

I had to learn to take my expectations off of leadership and ministry and allow Holy Spirit to reframe my mind... Who am I going to believe? If Jesus shows you something, you constantly keep it into your conversation with Him."—Kristen Wambach
THE WALLS OF DOCTRINE VS. THE GARDEN OF INTIMACY
Many Christians shy away from the spiritual realm because of a two-fold fear: the fear of being "deceived" and the fear of being "weird." I’ve often said that church culture shaped my perception long before the Holy Spirit had a chance to.
We are told, "Stay within these four walls and you’re safe." But if Jesus is the Door (John 10:9), He isn't a door that keeps us locked in; He is a door that leads us out into the expansive reality of the kingdom. When we prioritize reverence over shock and relationship over ritual, the "weirdness" of the supernatural melts away into the beauty of intimacy.

BEYOND GIBBERISH: THE LANGUAGE OF THE SPIRIT
One of the greatest "Pew" barriers is the misunderstanding of spiritual languages. I remember the first time I heard someone pray in tongues—it sounded like gibberish from a dimension I didn't want to visit. I had no "grid" for it.
But hunger is the catalyst for transformation. The breakthrough didn't come through a complex theological study; it came through a song. As I sang over my 10-month-old baby, the Holy Spirit washed away the shame and the control, and a heavenly language flowed out in musical tones. This isn't about "fruit, nuts, and flakes." It is about a Supernatural Reality that provides us with the tools to heal.

A TESTIMONY OF TIMELINES: THE KINDERGARTEN PICTURE
When we live Spiritually BRAVE, our "eyes" begin to open—not all at once, but in peripheral glimpses. This discernment serves a purpose: Love.
I remember interceding for a young mother whose lung had collapsed. During prayer, I saw a vision that looked like yellow construction paper—a kindergarten art project with cut-out trees. I realized that picture was a future reality: I was seeing the artwork her daughter would bring home to her years later. That vision wasn't for my entertainment; it was a legal document from Heaven’s timeline proving that she would live to see her daughter grow up. She was healed on the spot.

MONDAY-MORNING ACTIVATION: THE THRESHOLD PRACTICE
How do you begin to discern the unseen realm without falling into deception? You practice. You don't need a 400-page immersive manual; you need a simple path.
- The Tabernacle Flow: Start your day at the "Brazen Altar." Let the fire of God burn off the "stuff" (the stress, the ego, the distractions). Move to the "Laver" (the mirrors) and see your reflection in the Truth of who He says you are.
- The Doorway Practice: Literally use a doorway in your house. Stand on one side and check your "internal weather"—how do you feel? Then, consciously step through the threshold, acknowledging that you are stepping into the presence of Christ.
- Ask the Question: As you step, ask: "Lord, what is different here? What do I sense?"

TRANSCRIPT: BEYOND THE PEW | THRIVE WITHIN PODCAST
Host: Agatha
Guest: Kristen Wambach
[0:01] Agatha: Oh, I hear a sound. It's a brand new day. A voice rising up, showing me the way. Deep in my spirit, a fire begins. This is the moment where the thriving starts within.
[0:26] Agatha: Welcome to Tribe Within. This is the podcast where faith meets personal transformation. I'm your host, Agatha, and I'm the associate pastor at the Restplace Ministries in Peterborough, Ontario. I believe real growth begins in places no one else sees: your heart, your mind, and your spirit.
[1:28] Agatha: Hello divas, welcome to the Tribe Within podcast. This is the podcast for high performers who are hungry for more than just success. Whether you're a leader, visionary, an entrepreneur, or even a creative, this is your space to pause, to reflect, and to align with heaven's blueprint for your life.
[2:46] Agatha: Today, I have the pleasure of hosting Pastor Kristen Wambach. She’s someone that describes herself as an Oregon farm girl who stumbled upon the mystical nature of Christ. She’s an ordained pastor, an author, a seasoned podcaster, and an entrepreneur focused on helping people live Spiritually Brave.
[4:08] Agatha: Let's talk about the spirit realm for a little bit... Why do you think many Christians shy away from understanding this side of faith?
[6:28] Kristen Wambach: That’s a very huge table. I would like to start at one place: Jesus leads us into all truth and that is our beginning spot. Hanging out with Him is always truth. Our ego, our brain, would just constantly like to scream at us, "Oh, what happens if you get deceived?" If He leads us into all truth into Himself, then we just need to trust God.
[7:45] Kristen Wambach: In my experience, one of the difficult places was that there wasn't anybody around me that had any experience to share with me. I had to learn to take my expectations off of leadership and ministry and allow Holy Spirit to reframe my mind.
[9:40] Kristen Wambach: I'm going to say this and it's going to be a little scary: I think church shaped my culture. Church was the culture that tried to put up walls... "You're safe if you stay here in the walls." I was never of that makeup to stay within the walls.
[11:29] Kristen Wambach: I always share with people to the depth of their questions. If there's no questions, there's no sharing. The depth of their question lets you know what Holy Spirit is doing in their heart.
[13:06] Kristen Wambach: My evangelical upbringing didn't have any immersion of Holy Spirit. The first time I ever heard anybody speak in tongues, it scared me because I had no grid. None whatsoever. They sounded like gibberish.
[15:00] Kristen Wambach: Hunger is what causes you to step into the unknown. I was a young mom, four sons... The first place He sat me down was at my piano and He healed me. Once that shame and guilt was removed, then Holy Spirit was introduced.
[18:23] Kristen Wambach: I drove up to Portland to visit a woman named Pat in the hospital. While there, I met Jackie. She was hemorrhaging and they told her she was going to lose her baby. I prayed for her, and then Holy Spirit said, "I want you to pray for her in your prayer language."
[20:46] Kristen Wambach: I said to her, "The Holy Spirit’s given me a prayer language... it’s directly from heaven." I started praying. She started crying. She said, "My father, who is Cherokee Indian, used to tell me stories in the native tongue, and you sound just like him." That intimacy healed her on the spot. She gave birth to a healthy baby boy two months later.
[24:09] Kristen Wambach: I started seeing things in my peripheral view. I’d see angels—angel wings. Sometimes they looked like light and energy. I always asked, "God, I think that's an angel. Am I right?" And He'd always say, "Yes."
[26:44] Kristen Wambach: I was leading women's ministry and a young mom’s lung collapsed. I started interceding. All of a sudden, I get this picture—it looks like yellow construction paper with a house and trees cut out, very kindergarten.
[29:05] Kristen Wambach: I understood: that picture was a picture her daughter would make for her in kindergarten and bring home to her. I knew then that she would live. I told her best friend, she told the mom, and the mom was healed on the spot. Her lung healed.
[32:42] Kristen Wambach: Jesus Christ is the door... Scripture clearly says that I'm seated in heavenly places with Him. I want to know Him as a King of all the realms of heaven and earth.
[34:10] Kristen Wambach: Nothing moves if we don't make a decision. If we make a decision and it is wrong, at least we're moving. And now the Lord can redirect our feet. It's important to move.
[38:18] Kristen Wambach: A practical way to apply this is Tabernacle Prayer. You have the outer court, the inner court, the holy of holies. He's the way, truth, and life. You can take a threshold of a door in your house... Stand on one side and say, "Father, I'm going to practice stepping in through You."
[41:51] Kristen Wambach: Talk to Him about what you feel. It's just a simple little practice of stepping through the veil of Jesus Christ again and again.
[45:05] Kristen Wambach: We have a choice when we step through. What do you want to see? Do you want to see yucky stuff or do you want to see Him and the Kingdom of Heaven? I have a choice to open my spiritual eyes and to close them. I want to see His glory.
[48:09] Agatha: Thank you, Pastor Kristen. This has been so eye-opening... The spirit realm is real, but we don't have to be afraid.
[48:15] Kristen Wambach [Closing Prayer]: Father God, I just ask that Holy Spirit would just make this nice little communion wafer right here that holds our conversation today... Holy Spirit, help us to learn, to know, and to be confident that it's all in there. Amen.

THE OUTCOME: A SOUL THAT THRIVES
The spirit realm is not an "add-on" to the Christian life; it is the atmosphere of the believer. When you shift from the Logos mind to the Rhema mind, you stop wrestling with flesh and blood and start reigning from heavenly places.
As a spiritual investigative journalist and an ordained pastor with over 30 years of ministry, I can tell you this: God is not withholding information from you. He is waiting for you to be brave enough to ask the question.
The Anchor: "Nothing moves if we don't make a decision. If we make a decision and it is wrong, at least we're moving, and the Lord can redirect our feet." — Kristen Wambach

Coaching Church Activations
The Goal: To move from a "Logos-only" understanding of faith into a "Rhema-active" lifestyle by practicing the presence of the Holy Spirit.

THE PLAYBOOK ACTIVATION
- The Threshold Step: Tomorrow morning, choose a physical doorway in your home. Before you walk through it, pause. Acknowledge that Jesus is the Door. Ask, "Holy Spirit, what is your heart for me in this next room?" Step through and notice any shift in your "internal weather" or thoughts.
- The Hunger Audit: Write down one area of your life where you have felt "stuck in the pew" or limited by fear. Ask the Lord for a Rhema word or a "picture" (like the kindergarten art project) for that specific situation.
- The Move: Identify one decision you have been delaying because you were "waiting for a sign." Based on the logic that "God can redirect moving feet," take one small, practical step toward that decision today.
