UNSEEN BY THE WORLD, CELEBRATED BY GOD By Kristen WambachHave you ever felt completely unseen? Like you are putting in the hours, ticking the boxes, and doing the deep work, but the world around you is just totally oblivious? We live in a culture that is incredibly loud, hyper-distracted, and completely obsessed with celebrating success on a very narrow, visible scale. It is so easy to look at those metrics—the likes, the hearts, and the achievements of everyone else—and start believing the lie that you just aren't measuring up. We look at all that noise and think we're falling short. But when the world gets that loud, we need to dial it down. We need to tune out the external static and focus entirely on what God is actually saying about you and me. Today, we are tearing down that performance-based lie. We are stepping into a profound, often missed truth about a love that is so intense and so focused it completely drowns out the noise of comparison. We are talking about how God and you celebrate you—even when the world is completely distracted. 0:00 — Distractions and the High-Performance TrapBut here's the butt. I know there's always a butt, isn't there? Some seasons, even though you feel like you're really ticking the box and you're marking your way through, those seasons can be full of people issues, work dramas, family issues, health issues. So the word issues makes you feel like distraction is just hovering around you. Correct? There are times when we're accomplishing and ticking the boxes and moving the needle on our own personal dreams, but those around us may not be. What do you do? Hello from the Pacific Northwest! This is Kristen from kristenwambach.com and you're listening to the Interviewing Jesus Podcast. Answer me this: How does a Baptist farm girl from Oregon stumble upon the mystical nature of Christ and the love of God? If you're like me, Jesus has redefined what you used to say yes to. Join me and my guests on a mystical journey. But before we talk about the spiritual woowoo, you need to know I am totally sold out to Jesus. It's amazing what the love of God reveals. Now, let me jump right in. What prompted today's episode? Let me tell you. So, I am having a very productive week. As you know, I'm kind of one of those high-performance gals and I keep good notes and organized and stuff, and I'm working on some projects and I feel like, oh, I'm ticking the boxes of progress. Yay! Do you ever feel that way? You just go like, "Yes, I did my Friday finishers. I'm ticking my box and I'm encouraged by the Lord. I'm writing down my dreams." And you just feel like you're focused and you're stepping in the right place, right? But here's the butt. I know there's always a butt, isn't there? Some seasons, even though you feel like you're really ticking the box and you're marking your way through, those seasons can be full of people issues, work dramas, family issues, health issues. So the word issues makes you feel like distraction is just hovering around you. Correct. There are times when we're accomplishing and ticking the boxes and moving the needle on our own personal dreams, but those around us may not be. What do you do? And how do you function in this? And how—it's just a really good how. That's what Jesus wanted us to talk about today: that we need to learn to pat ourselves on our own back in His presence because He is so pleased with you. 4:17 — Understanding God's Delight in UsSo I pulled a very famous scripture from Zephaniah 3:16 and 17. We're going to meander through it and pull out some really good wisdoms with some life applications. It says that day the message for Jerusalem will be, "Zion, do not yield to fear. Zion, do not yield to fear. Don't let your heart be discouraged." There's a first point for us: Do not let your heart be discouraged. So what do you do when the world around you seems distracted or noisy? In 1 Corinthians 4, it says any judgment prior to the Lord's coming, that's prior to the cross. So everything before the cross, every judgment that would be pronounced before the cross is out of context. No, it just doesn't apply to us anymore. When we take everything that is before the cross, that brings it to a performance-based judgment. But Him coming, Him dying on the cross and being resurrected, whom we are in Him, it illuminates all those hidden mysteries for us and it shows us that we are included in His death, resurrection, and love. Amen! So back to Zephaniah, verse 17 says, "Yahweh your God is inside of you." Do you ever sit there and fathom God inside of you? He is a warrior, a savior who takes such delight in you that it will make Him leap for joy and shout with great gladness. Yes, He will soothe you with His love and He will sing over you His song of praise. What does it feel like to be aware of God inside you? Let's unpack that. First, let's consider the singer: God, the mighty warrior who saves. Yes, this is not, or He is not, a passive spectator. He's not just an orchestra leader up there, you know, ticking off his little baton expecting you to follow. No, He's going in and out of all the different portions of the orchestra, sitting down with every single instrument and sound in that whole symphony. He is totally involved. He is all-powerful, all-knowing, all-capable God inside of you and I! The one who parts the seas, moves the mountains, and orchestrates the cosmos. And He's entirely focused on you right now in this place, in this time, right here—just with your headphones or your little daily bobs in your earbobs. He's totally focused on you. Can we fathom that for a moment? 6:54 — The Power of God's Presence and SingingOh my goodness. And He's a connecting God in the most personal way. He not only saves us but those we love. Now I'm going to take a moment to unpack that word saves. Yes, we know the word means sozo—saved, healed, delivered. But let's chew on it just a little bit more, okay? No longer is it just about arriving into kingdom glory down the road, because Jesus made the presence of God available to us 24/7 now. We are on a journey to stay tuned, to stay in the spirit, to step in so to speak, and to partner with God as His transformation impacts us and the world around us. He may ask us to intercede or He may ask us just to focus and rest in trust. Number two, second, consider the action: He will take great delight in you. What does that look like, God taking delight in you? Can you name something in the last couple of days that God did where He showed His delight for you? That Hebrew word delight implies a deep and profound joy and a pleasure. Do you catch God taking pleasure in you? It's the kind of joy like a proud parent feels when watching their child just walking through their day, simply existing. A joy that is completely unconditional. You just watch your child and there they are. 8:52 — Practicing Awareness of God's LoveYou know, we spend so much of our lives defending the character of God we hope is good, while silently carrying the weight of religious exhaustion and unanswered questions. But what if His kindness isn't a reward for your effort? What if it's a reality you can step into right now? I want to invite you to go deeper than this podcast episode. My book, How Good is God: Beyond the Gates to Truly Experience Heaven, is more than just a story—it’s a practical path. It is a field guide and the result of 30 years of spiritual investigative journalism designed to help you dismantle the enemy's defense lines and finally see the gap between Heaven and earth close, from the boardroom to your very own living room. Whether you are navigating a difficult season or you're simply ready to activate the redemptive desire wired right in your DNA, this layout is for you. You can find How Good is God along with the coordinating journal and workbook wherever books are sold, including Amazon and Audible. Let's stop studying God from afar and start knowing Him intimately. Grab your copy today and let's get back to the show. Our existence is a source of happiness for God. He doesn't just tolerate you and I. Sometimes it feels like I'm just tolerating me. Raise your hand if you go, "Oh, help me Jesus." I know. He doesn't just tolerate you and I; He celebrates you. And this shifts our perspective from seeking God's approval to simply receiving God's pleasure. And that is what we're all about here today: just receiving God's pleasure. And that pleasure needs to overflow to patting ourselves on the back in His presence. Yes, pat yourself on your back in His presence. And what does this do? You're holding your head up high. And when you hold your head up high and celebrate you—just today, you; not what maybe went on yesterday or this morning, no, right here and now—you're listening to this encouraging podcast to draw closer to God. How do you think that makes Him feel? He says, "Yes, yes, and amen. There's my kid stepping in and listening and trusting me." So when we do that, when we hold our head up and we go, "Yep, this was the right choice to do," it helps us avoid calamity in relationships. And that develops stronger boundaries. Yay! And it helps us to direct our prayers for others because we've taken the time to say, "Hey God, thank you. Thank you so much for helping me today. Thank you for putting this episode right in front of me so I can be encouraged." It's a gratitude where we say, "God, I can feel you and I'm in concert with you." Number three, it's a very striking element: He will rejoice over you with singing. This is God—God our Father, creator of heaven and earth—and He belts out a long song over you. This is the highest form of personal celebration. The world may be distracted, your to-do list might be incomplete, and you may feel utterly just mediocre today, but God's soundtrack for you and your life is one of triumph and uninhibited joy. Can you imagine that? This divine music is intended to quiet you by His love, to encourage you by His volume, and allow you to rest in the assurance of your worth. And to answer your question—yes, I hear your questions—how can we hear His singing? Isn't that a great question? How can we hear His singing? Practicing His presence and awareness. 13:40 — Aligning Our Choices with God's JoyI'm going to break that down just this week: practicing His presence and awareness. It's through choices. You have so many choices. You had a choice whether to hang out with me today on this podcast. Yes, that is a choice that you made. And God says, "Wow, look, she or he is listening to hear me, to draw closer, to live spiritually brave, to understand the mysteries of heaven and earth." So, how do we hear His singing through choices? I can choose to work out as a habitual thing that I do every day, or I can choose to have fun and praise God when I work out. Simple choice. I can choose to listen to another podcast self-help episode, or if I've already had my limits for today of self-help, God might say, "Why don't you just put on your favorite praise and worship music and sing at the top of your lungs?" Right? Or, I can choose to entertain or defend another person's bad attitudes. Do we ever do that? Do we ever entertain or defend another person's bad attitudes? Okay, I've been married, what, 41 or 42 years—I can tell you I have done this a time or two. Or I can choose to allow God to redirect their day. It's not my responsibility, their attitude and those people around us. It's not my responsibility for their happiness, and therefore I remain in peace. Now hearing God sing over you is literal. There is a literal sound that He communicates to you. You can hear, you can feel, you can perceive His song. Also, a natural song is all around you. There's a natural song that we're just going to take a minute and think about. Now I can look out of my office window here with all my podcast equipment, the speakers, the microphone, and you're here and the camera's going, but I can look out the window and I can see those vivid summer green leaves are changing. That is God going from the sound in the heat of summer and harvest—His loud sound—to piano or pianissimo, to a very soft transition where nature's just changing, and I'm aware of it. 16:30 — Embracing Our Worth and TransformationIt's when you notice, when you take a breath in that moment, that God turns up the aha and says, "I see you and you see me. I see you and you see me." And that's hearing His song. Back to choices: How will you respond in that moment? How will you respond when you catch God singing over you and there's an aha, and you can tangibly feel His presence, or you're just caught away with the beauty of nature, or maybe you noticed your son and he's building something wonderful and you go, "Wow"—you have a wow moment. How will you respond to carrying God's song over you? Now, let's pull out a few other scriptures here that highlight God's heart for you. In Jeremiah 31:3, the Lord appeared to us in the past saying, "I have loved you with an everlasting love." He draws us with His unfailing kindness. In Psalms 139:14, "I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made." There's a choice right there: I'm fearfully and wonderfully made. That's what caused me just to hop on the edge, turn on some radical Beach Boys music, and hang out with my granddaughter with what she was currently doing. She's developing her balance and her walking skills, and I jumped right on in and I made it fun. In Isaiah 62:3, "You will be a crown of splendor in the Lord's hand. A royal diadem in the hand of your God." What's that about? Your beauty—because crowns are pretty. You are a beautiful crown in His hands; you are a piece of royalty. Imagine that. 19:13 — Living Spiritually Brave and GratefulSo the challenge for us in this episode as we embrace that we're going to live spiritually brave today is to actively join God's celebration in you and I. We're relabeling what we assumed our flaws were. We've relabeled ourselves and allowed Him to paint a canvas of our royalty, of our beauty, of our catching God catching us: I see you and you see me. He will no longer rebuke you and I. In Zephaniah, He will no longer rebuke you and I. Why does God no longer rebuke you and I? Because of what Jesus did. That means God gave up His right to be angry because of Jesus's sacrifice. So stop waiting for the world to notice your external shine and start noticing the internal transformation that He is working on. When you tick a box—yes, I tick a box and I got this done today, I was organized, I'm in my flow—say, "Yes, our imperfections are the places where grace, His grace, is most perfectly displayed." Yeah, maybe I might have lost it this morning with the technical help person on the computer. Well, you could pop them a thank you note because they always send the display of the conversation in your email. You can make things right, and God sees that. That's our healing, our transformation. And it tells us that we're accepted in Him and receiving His acceptance. We listen. We make a choice and purpose ourselves to listen for the loud singing, right? Loud singing—let God turn the volume up. And when feelings of inadequacies creep in, when we compare ourselves, what do we do? When we even compare ourselves to people that are around us that may not be in that great of a mood—that's comparing ourselves. What are we going to do? Are we going to join them in bad attitudes, or are we going to use our imagination to hear God's song over us and keep focusing and trusting Him in this day? It's a purposeful act of faith to say, "The world's whisper of failure? That's not mine. No thank you. I choose to hear God's loud song of joy over me." And this is how hearing God's voice is the most essential way. 22:16 — Conclusion and PrayerAnd this way we hear God's voice. I invite you to check out my YouTube channel playlist, Hearing God. It has a whole bunch of episodes in it that will help you fine-tune those listening ears. Amen! And number three, align your steps with delight. Just like my choices, when you work out, when you go for a walk, when you're exercising because you know that it's good for you, you have a choice right there. You can make it fun. You can make it a prayer time with God. You can make it a conversation with yourself. There are so many things that you can do to turn up the volume of God's song over you and align your steps with delight. Since God delights in every detail of your life, start delighting in the life that you've been given. Stop waiting for that big breakthrough to be happy. Happiness is one of the most powerful choices that you can make. Celebrate the small stuff. Celebrate the kindness that you extend. Celebrate the moments when your patience shows up—help me Jesus! And celebrate the courage it takes to simply get up and try again when maybe we fell down or messed up. That's what a relationship with God is for. Say, "God, I'm sorry. I'm sorry that I screwed up. Help me to pick up the pieces. Help me to change my attitude, or let's have a talk about my attitude and why I feel this way." A daily act of gratitude is how we live spiritually brave, practice our development, and feel our growth in the spirit. Amen. Let's pray together. Mmm, so good. Father God, I thank you that we made a choice to sit in your presence today. Whether we're behind a microphone or sitting with a set of headphones on, we made a choice to hear your voice, to even learn about hearing your voice, and to know how you are singing over us. We remember, Father, and we acknowledge that you're a warrior and a savior, and we delight and give you permission to be that in our lives. God, we give you praise. And Holy Spirit, I just ask that you would help each and every one of the listeners to make an extra pat on their back today for the good job that they have done to focus, listen, and get into your presence. In Jesus' name, amen. So be it. Yay! If today's message shifted your perspective on your own worth, on the choices that God has given you today, or on how God and you celebrate you—how amazingly special you are—please share this episode with one person who also needs to hear God's song over them. Don't forget to visit my YouTube channel playlist, Hearing God, as I've separated out a bunch of really good morsels of episodes just on that subject matter: how to hear God. I bless you, thanks for hanging out today, I am encouraged, and I will talk to you again next week. Bye now. The Dynamic of the Divine SymphonyOur core scripture today is found in Zephaniah 3:17, and it is a true testament of divine wisdom: "The Lord your God is with you, the mighty warrior who saves; He takes great delight in you. In His love He will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing." Think about that for a second. The sovereign God who hung the stars in the sky, placed the planets, and mapped the depths of the ocean is singing a loud, joyful song of triumph explicitly over you. That isn’t just a quiet, polite nod of approval from a distance. That is a full-blown celebration. To really grab hold of this, we have to look at the character of the Singer. He is a mighty warrior who saves. In the original language, the word for save is sozo—which means saved, healed, and completely delivered. But because of the cross, this isn't just about catching a ticket to Heaven someday in the future. Through Jesus, we have Heaven available to us 24/7 right now. Our journey today is about staying tuned, stepping into the spirit, and partnering with Him as His transformation impacts our daily lives. God is not a passive spectator. He isn't an aloof orchestra leader standing on a high pedestal, ticking off a little baton and expecting you to keep up. No! He is moving in and out of every section of the orchestra, sitting next to every instrument and adjusting to each unique sound. He is entirely focused on you, right here, right now, exactly as you are. Shifting from Validation to PleasureThe second truth we need to unpack is the action: He takes great delight in you. Delight implies a deep, profound, unconditional joy and pleasure. God doesn’t just tolerate you; He celebrates you. This completely shifts our perspective from constantly striving to earn His approval to simply resting in His pleasure. And when we receive that pleasure, it gives us the freedom to pat ourselves on the back in His presence and hold our heads up high. It builds strong emotional boundaries and keeps us from getting dragged into interpersonal drama and relationship calamities. I caught a beautiful glimpse of this truth in my own life recently. I was hanging out with my granddaughter, Liesl, who is just under 18 months old. She has these agility blocks and an overstuffed climbing triangle that she loves to play on. She was practicing her balance, carefully walking up the slanted edge, and learning to stand completely straight. There was no stadium applause, no competition, and no massive audience—just a little girl growing and learning. So, what did Grandma do? I grabbed my phone, put on a classic Beach Boys track, and captured a video of her balancing and moving to the music. I was completely swept up in delighting in her normal, ordinary growth. That is exactly how God looks at you. Your simple existence is a source of happiness for Him. He looks at you stepping in, listening to His word, and choosing to trust Him, and He says, "Yes and amen, there’s my kid!" Cultivating the Monday-Morning PracticeSo, how do we actually hear His voice and tune into this singing in the middle of our chaotic schedules? It comes down to our daily choices. We have so many choices every single day. For example, when you do your workout or go for a walk, you can choose to treat it as a tedious chore, or you can choose to turn on praise music, sing at the top of your lungs, and make it a fun conversation with God. When you are confronted with the bad attitudes or heavy drama of the people around you, you have a structural choice. You can choose to defend, entertain, and carry their bad moods, or you can choose to hand them over to God and let Him redirect their day. Their happiness is not your responsibility, and choosing to step back allows you to remain in perfect peace. Hearing God sing over you is a literal, tangible reality. You can feel and perceive His song all around you if you pause to notice it. I can look out my office window right now past all my podcast microphones and equipment, and see the vivid summer green leaves gently changing color. That is God turning down the loud volume of harvest and transitioning nature into a soft, quiet piano melody. It’s an "aha" moment where God says, "I see you, and you see me." Living spiritually brave means refusing to accept the world's whisper of failure. We don't have to wait for a massive external breakthrough to experience joy. Happiness is one of the most powerful choices you can make. Start noticing the internal transformation He is working on. Celebrate the small stuff—celebrate the moments you choose patience, the times you extend kindness, and the raw courage it takes to simply get back up and try again when you mess up. Silence the noise, hold your head high, and choose to hear God's loud song of joy over your life today. Coaching Church ActivationsThe Performance Detox"Stop waiting for the world to notice your external shine and start noticing the internal transformation that He is working on."
