I am a beloved creation of God. I am not beloved because I have my sight, or because I am reading enough scripture; I am enough here and now on a rainy Monday morning because I am His." —Laura Bratton
Finding the "Hidden Goodness" in Your Darkest SeasonsWe often wait for the "neon billboard" miracle to prove that God is good. We look for the cancer to vanish or the sight to return before we are willing to testify to His grace. But as Laura Bratton beautifully shared in our latest conversation, God’s goodness is often found in the "hidden" provisions—the practical resources He places in our path to ensure we never walk alone. SUMMARYIn this soul-stirring episode of the Interviewing Jesus Podcast, host Kristen Wambach sits down for a second time with Laura Bratton—acclaimed author of Harnessing Courage, founder of Ooby Global, and a spiritual investigative journalist of the heart. The conversation pivots away from the trauma of Laura’s transition into blindness and focuses instead on a "Beyond" posture: recognizing the redemptive, tangible goodness of God in the "Monday-morning" reality of our lives. Laura shares how a quiet walk in a park—listening to the amplified songs of birds—became a sanctuary for God’s presence, proving that when we recalibrate our spiritual senses, His goodness becomes louder than our circumstances. TRANSCRIPT: THE GOODNESS OF GOD IS VOICE ACTIVATED 00:00 The Journey of Spiritual Sight: Redemption, Inner Knowing Kristen Wambach: Imagine waking up tomorrow morning, reaching for your glasses or opening your eyes, and you realize the world you rely on has gone dim. Most of us would be paralyzed by the why or the how, but what if in that moment of darkness you discovered a different kind of sight? One that didn't just help you survive but allowed you to see the heart of Jesus more clearly than ever before. That is the reality of our guest today. She discovered that when the world goes quiet and the lights go out, God's goodness doesn't vanish—it actually gets louder. Today we're stepping beyond the surface to explore a landscape of pure redemption. Returning to the show is my friend, Laura Bratton. Laura Bratton: Perfect. You’re perfect. Yes, I am. Kristen Wambach: Returning to the show is my friend, Laura Bratton. She is an acclaimed author, speaker, and global authority on what it means to be spiritually brave. She doesn't just speak about faith; she lives a reality where the goodness of God is a tangible, navigating force. Most of us are distracted by what we see with our physical eyes, often missing the supernatural provision right in front of us. Laura is here to help us recalibrate. She possesses a rare credibility in teaching us how to move past fear and recognize God's unconditional yes over our lives. Help me welcome back to the Interviewing Jesus Podcast, Laura Bratton. Welcome. Laura Bratton: Thank you. I am so, so excited to be back. 03:39 Experiencing God's Goodness Through the Senses: Birdsong, Nature, Presence Kristen Wambach: Laura, you often speak about seeing with the heart. For those of us who are sometimes blinded by what we see physically, how does Holy Spirit reveal the tangible goodness of God to our other senses through sound, touch, and that inner knowing that you've cultivated? Laura Bratton: I want to start with a very practical example that literally happened yesterday. My husband and I were walking in a park, and the birds were just so loud—way more loud than normal. I was able to tune in and it felt like I was just meditating in God's presence while listening to the bird sounds. I wasn't thinking about anything; I was just being present. In those few moments, that's when I could just rest in the faithfulness of God. I experienced God's goodness by observing the sounds rather than being distracted by my to-do lists. It comes through our sight, our sound, and most powerfully, just in that inner knowing—that gut intuition of God's Spirit. 06:32 Grit and Gratitude: Finding Strength in Faith, Beloved Creation Kristen Wambach: You coined a very powerful phrase: grit and gratitude. In the quiet moments when grit is required just to move forward, how have you found God's goodness acting as the wind at your back, rather than just a distant promise? Laura Bratton: The spirit that empowers me when it's rainy and cold and you don't want to start the week is knowing and trusting and accepting that I am a beloved creation of God. I am not beloved only when I have my sight or when I'm reading enough scripture. I am enough here and now on that rainy morning because I'm a beloved creation. Using that as my foundation empowers me and gives me the strength to move forward. 09:30 Practical Resources: Recognizing God's Everyday Gifts, Mercy, Provision Kristen Wambach: How can we better recognize the hidden goodness of God? Sometimes we don't realize the tools that are right there at our disposal. How can we recognize those practical, everyday provisions that ensure we never walk alone? Laura Bratton: You said the key phrase: practical resources. We often look for God and think, "It’s only God if I receive my sight back," or "It's only God if my cancer is healed." But God is in the daily practical resources. No, I haven't received my sight back, but I have received the gift of guide dogs that changed my life. I have received the gift of Siri and Alexa that I use to control the washing machine, the dryer, the thermostat. That’s God. When we can change our perspective from neon billboard signs to seeing God in every part of our day—that is the game changer. 12:19 Voice Activation: The Power of Speaking Out, Atmosphere, Testimony Kristen Wambach: There was a word you used—voice activation. You use your voice to turn on the coffee pot or the dryer. I think there's more for us when we're talking to God; we need to learn how to use our voice to activate our own hearts. Laura Bratton: I agree. There’s something powerful about using our voice. I can be thinking about something I'm struggling with in my head, but once I call a friend and talk it out, it's like, "Okay, yeah, I see God in that." It becomes so obvious. It’s so much more powerful than just thinking about these things in our head by ourselves. Kristen Wambach: I’ll hear what God said to me in my inner knowing, and sometimes I don't voice it. But when I let it come out of my mouth, that life comes out and begins to change the environment around me. 15:13 Beloved: Understanding Our Worth in God's Eyes, Identity, Enough Kristen Wambach: When someone feels they are in a dark season where God's goodness feels obscure, what is one spiritually brave activation they can do to reconnect with His light? Laura Bratton: Believe you are a beloved creation. I cannot say that enough. When we're in those hopeless moments, just tap into that inner knowing: I’m enough. I am loved. Even if you don't cognitively believe it yet, just sit with it in your body. Notice your shoulders dropping and your muscles relaxing. To me, that is the first step. When we can focus on how God views us, that is the first step. 21:16 The Role of Relationships in Recognizing Our Value, Connection, Community Kristen Wambach: What happens if we don't agree with ourselves or if we don't agree with God that we're worthy? How would we disengage that lie? Laura Bratton: Call that one person that you know in your world loves you. Is that a friend? A family member? A pet? Call them and say, "Hey, I'm struggling." Let them reassure you. I have a King Charles Spaniel, and I learned so much from her because she loves me if I'm in a good mood or a bad mood. Pets are so good at just being present, sitting at your feet, saying, "I'm in for it all—the anger, the tears, the joy." 28:00 Building Trust: The Process of Relationship with God, The Bridge, Consistency Kristen Wambach: How long did it take you and your guide dog to learn how to flow together? Laura Bratton: There was not one magical moment. It was a series of moments that added up to days and weeks. It was a constant ongoing process of daily putting in the trust and listening to how she responded. Kristen Wambach: Listeners, can you apply that metaphorically? Laura is talking about an experience with her guide dog, and I saw that in how we relate in communion with the Lord. We're building a relationship. There isn't water under the bridge until you've traveled back and forth over that bridge a few times together. 34:00 God's Goodness in All Circumstances: Suffering, Peace, Laughter Laura Bratton: I want to highlight that God's goodness is present in the good, the bad, and the mundane. I want to make this crystal clear: I am not saying God's goodness is in our suffering. What I am saying is the goodness of God's love is with us in the suffering. God's power is present in it all. 38:12 Outro: Thank you for joining us! Kristen Wambach: Thank you so much, Laura. Remember, as you walk through your week, keep your ears tuned in for the birds, for nature, and know that you are present in His presence. Thank you. SCAN TO LISTEN ON MOBILE DEVICE The Monday-morning Reality of GraceLaura, an acclaimed author and spiritual authority who transitioned into blindness, lives a life of "Grit and Gratitude." She reminds us that God is present in the gift of hot water, the sound of birds in the early evening, and the technology that allows us to navigate our homes. When we stop arguing with our circumstances and start recognizing the "unconditional yes" of the Father, our environment begins to shift. There is something powerful about using our voice. Just as we use our voice to activate the technology in our homes, we must use our voice to activate our own hearts and change the environment around us." —Laura Bratton Your Voice is the KeyOne of the most profound moments of our discussion was the concept of "voice activation." We live in a world where we can turn on a coffee pot with a word, yet we often remain silent in our own spiritual atmosphere. Laura challenges us to open our mouths. When we speak out loud—whether to a friend, a pet, or the Lord—we move the truth from a thought in our heads to a reality in our bodies. Connect with Laura Bratton
