Key Episode Takeaways
SUMMARYIn this powerful episode of the Interviewing Jesus Podcast, host Kristen Wambach sits down with international podcaster Mick Wienholt (host of Coincidence or God) to confront the hidden exhaustion of performance-driven faith. Mick unzips his personal history—from a miraculous survival of a severe avalanche in 2000 to the devastating full-term stillbirth of his first-born son, Luke, in 2012. He reveals how those raw, crushing realities shattered his self-made identity and forced a total surrender to King Jesus. The core of the conversation centers on a radical shift that disrupted Mick's walk in 2023, when the Holy Spirit delivered a jarring pattern interrupt: "Because you are a created being, you are subject to, not central in, your own life." Mick details how this word completely dismantled his corporate performance engine, transforming his prayer life from a target-driven metric matrix into a lifestyle of total postural surrender. Through real-time prophetic moments, a deep dive into the eternal legacy of his son Luke (meaning "Light-giving"), and a visceral, face-to-the-floor prayer activation, this episode provides a practical blueprint for moving past religious checklists. Listeners are challenged to stop functioning like a "bucket" trying to hold onto validation, and instead become a "pipe" that effortlessly lets the Father's grace flow through to the world. We assume a lot of times we forget how human that Jesus was... He had to apply himself to actually learn and know the Father in relationship." — Kristen Wambach LISTEN TO AUDIO VERSION

Kristen Wambach (01:01) Or God. An international podcaster, a brother in faith who understands the difference between surviving a crisis and being completely rewritten by the goodness of God. After a miraculous survival of an avalanche in 2000, it was a heartbreaking loss of his full term stillborn son Luke in 2012 that Kristen Wambach (01:28) Utterly shattered his old identity and brought him into an authentic, raw relationship with Jesus. Then in 2025, Jesus pulled him out of a multi-decade high-level corporate sales career overnight to live a life of total radical financial dependence and surrender. I know your ears are perked up, aren't they? Kristen Wambach (01:55) Please welcome to the show a trusted voice who knows exactly what it means to live spiritually blave. Welcome, Mick Weinholt. Mick (02:08) Mm. Kristen, super grateful to be here. Thank you so much for the opportunity to have a great conversation with you. Really excited about our time. Kristen Wambach (02:16) Thank you. Thank you very much. And just the clue here, listeners. Start writing your Holy Spirit questions out. We have our ears open to hear what Jesus has on the heart for everybody today. Amen. Kristen Wambach (02:34) Mick, Mick, you mentioned, and yes, I've done my homework. You mentioned in our connecting, when you and I were connecting through PodMatch, you wanted to anchor our conversation in Ephesians 2:10, that we are his workmanship created for good works. When you were standing at the peak of the avalanche. Kristen Wambach (03:00) Or standing at the peak of the international corporate sales career as an SVP. I should probably ask what an SVP is, but your identity was naturally tried to per from performance and provision. And when the door slammed shut for eight hours, how did Jesus redefine your understanding of workmanship apart from a paycheck? Mick (03:28) Mm. Man, what a wonderful question. Yeah, I think it actually goes back a little bit before that, Kristen. And you've done a wonderful job truly of setting it up in terms of this is what life was like for me, you know? And SVP being senior VP, just meaning, you know, we're talking the executive levels of sales, right? Kristen Wambach (03:48) Mm-hmm. Mick (03:48) And you know, I'm the sole breadwinner in my household. And that was always by design. We have three living children that we raise and we homeschool. And so the primary distribution of work was in large part as you had described, right? This is breadwinner, provision, those types of things. And then my wife is the primary educator. But it was actually a handful of years ago while I'm still in the workforce that. Mick (04:18) God really began to give me clarity on things. And I was listening to a sermon by Pastor Matt Chandler out of Texas, and Matt described it ever so slightly differently. But what the Holy Spirit told me in the moment as I was listening to this particular sermon was he said, quote, because you are a created being. Mick (04:46) You are subject to not central in your own life. And Kristen, this is this is 2023, I believe, when I have this super clear deposit from the Holy Spirit. Because you are a created being, you are subject to not central in your own life. Kristen Wambach (05:09) Mm-hmm. Mick (05:14) Now, up to that point, I'm thinking I'm I'm now a decade into a real relationship with Jesus Christ because as what you described, it is the death of our son Luke, who was full term, exactly as you had described it, right? He's 39 weeks. My wife delivers a six-pound, eight-ounce dead baby as our first pregnancy. Mick (05:39) And weeks before that, two-ish, three-ish weeks, the obstetrician had said, You guys are good to go. Everything's good. Mom's healthy, baby's healthy, all of that. So this fully came out of nowhere and really rocked our world. that's kind of an understatement. Truly rocked us for eternity. And by God's grace, we get to say that because we were not in relationship with Jesus Christ. Okay. And it's Luke's death that humbled us. Mick (06:09) Crushed us, brought us to our knees, to then we cried out in surrender and said, This is beyond me. This is beyond us. We need you. So that's 2012, right? And here we are in 2023, then when the Holy Spirit says to me, Because you are a created being, you are subject to not central in your own life. And what that began to do, sorry, go ahead. Kristen Wambach (06:37) need some help on the words used there. Okay. You said because we are created beings, we are not subject or central to finish the your your life. So what does that mean? And central not subject to or central to those I I need you to unpack for me. Mick (06:48) Yeah. Yep. Absolutely. So he Yeah, so Mick (06:57) Okay, let's definitely unpack that. So the Holy Spirit is saying to me, okay, this was during Chandler speaking, all right, but I hear directly from the Holy Spirit, where he says, because you are a created being. Okay, we'll just pause right there, right? So he's like, You are created. I created you is the message that he is communicating to me. Okay. Then he says, because you are created, right? Kristen Wambach (07:02) Mm-hmm. Kristen Wambach (07:05) Right. Kristen Wambach (07:13) Mm-hmm. Kristen Wambach (07:20) Mm. Mick (07:25) You are subject to, meaning him, subject to the king, right? Not central in your own life. Okay? Yeah, absolutely. And I really appreciate the fact that we do get to spend a a bit of time there. And the what's particularly important, I think, is that Kristen Wambach (07:30) huh. Kristen Wambach (07:38) Okay, thank you. That helped me. Mick (07:49) I'm I'm 11-ish years into a real relationship with Jesus Christ, okay? One in which I am endeavoring to honor him in the way that I carry myself. Okay. My salvation and the entering into relationship with Jesus Christ cause things to change immediately and instantaneously. Mick (08:15) And then also started for me this long progression that you and I in the modern church call sanctification, right? So there were things that just immediately were totally different. For example, just so that all the listeners know what I mean by this, I went from listening to Tool, Rage Against the Machine, you know, Nine-inch Nails, this harder kind of rock space, okay, to overnight. Kristen Wambach (08:39) Mm-hmm. Mick (08:42) Only being interested in Christian worship music. And that has remained the case for 13 years. And it's 14 years at this point. And it and it's just wild to see how like it was that then and it is this now, right? And yet the way in which we handled our finances. Kristen Wambach (08:49) Okay. Mick (09:02) Is different today than it was back then. We couldn't even afford to do a tithe, okay? And God literally helped us get out of debt, blessed us through that process when we said, Hey, we've screwed up, we're doing this all wrong, let's do it your way. You know what I mean? But I'm highlighting that because there's been this progression and I want people to understand that, right? So Mick (09:26) That progression at this point in our conversation in the story is about a decade long. And so when the Holy Spirit says you are subject to not central in your own life, I'm thinking, man, up to this point, I've been trying my best not to be central in my own life, right? Mick (09:51) Well, what was really being revealed there was without question, it still was about me. Yes, I took care of my husbandly duties, my fatherly duties as provider, caring, loving, all of those things. But my prayer life looked like Mick (10:09) Hey, Lord, what about this? Hey, could we do this? Could we have that? Will you make this deal happen? You know what I mean? Those types of things. Will you show me who to contact? Will you have these people answer my emails? Those types of things that are serving me. And all of this is happening in my mind, in my life, in the context of well, if I'm successful at work, then Kristen Wambach (10:27) Uh-huh. Mick (10:36) Able to provide, this is what I'm supposed to do, these types of things, right? Well, when the Holy Spirit goes, you are subject to not central in. Mick (10:46) It really began to radically change things. And I'll give you an example of what I mean by radically change things. So I was just talking about how my prayer life was this litany of things that we wanted. Okay. And I don't, I don't, I I wanna be clear here, okay? Some of it was akin to what maybe people have heard of as this Kristen Wambach (10:52) Mm-hmm. Mick (11:11) Genie in the bottle, kind of Jesus, you know, like you get three wishes, right? Meaning we would ask him for certain things. But on the whole, I want to be very transparent here that our heart was desiring to to truly serve him. Okay. But what he began to show me here was that I wasn't sold out for him. And that's the beginning, really, of where. Kristen Wambach (11:27) Mm-hmm. Mick (11:38) He began to change my understanding and my being and me sort of at a soul level of where he goes, you are subject to. And so the prayer life goes from, How about this, how about that, to your will be done. Mick (11:56) It literally changed overnight because my wife and I pray every single night. We're good, we're good for probably like 360 nights a year. Okay. Someone might be super sick, somebody's on the dark side of the moon with no cell service. You know what I mean? So we're we're like 360 out of the 365. But my point in saying that is that we would pray every night for all kinds of different things. You know what I mean? Pray for people that we love, pray for people that need are in need, all of this. And then it was Kristen Wambach (12:06) Okay. Mick (12:26) Your will be done. And then the prayer life began to be more of Lord, this is our heart's desire, but not our will, yours. Because we began to realize okay, we can have this back and forth with Him in relationship on purpose. He already knows it. Mick (12:52) It's important for us to pour our hearts out and tell them, we're asking for healing for this person. But we don't, we don't, we don't begin to believe that that is ultimately the best thing for them. We think it is, but we know from Isaiah 55 that his ways are higher than ours. They're not our thoughts, they're his thoughts. And so Kristen Wambach (12:54) Mm-hmm. Mick (13:17) Whatever's going on with that person, maybe for their growth, maybe for somebody else's growth, maybe because he needs to give that person's organ to somebody else. We have no idea about these things. So we would pray our heart's intent and our heart's desire, and then submit all of that to him with, but not our will, Lord, yours for each of these types of things. Mick (13:41) And then it began to also progress, and I love your your nonverbals here as you're l listening so intently. You know, we began to ask him to give us the prayers to pray. Mick (13:57) And that was a whole nother level and a whole nother level of cool relationship. I'm literally gonna use that word, like cool relationship, and then also deeper relationship, because then when he would give us the prayers to pray, a lot of times we didn't have any context, didn't make any sense why we were praying them. Kristen Wambach (14:00) Mm. Kristen Wambach (14:08) Yeah. Mick (14:20) And then other times we did or just had every little bit of context that we needed, but no matter what, it was a scenario, Kristen, where we knew that what we were praying was completely aligned with his will because he'd literally given them to us. And so it was awesome. You know, I'll pause there. Kristen Wambach (14:39) Mm-hmm. Kristen Wambach (14:42) Yeah. Okay. Okay. I agree with you because a lot of people say, not my will, but your will, and they and and and I and I always put a little highlight here in that part that that, you know, his ways are higher than our ways. Well, I understand that now today it's not that I can't be aware of his ways. It means come up here and sit in my presence to know what my ways are. Mick (15:12) Mm. Yeah. I can see that. Kristen Wambach (15:13) We are supposed to know his ways. Mick (15:19) I track with you on that. I would say it ever so slightly differently for me personally, in that I've I have really been attracted to the character of God that He has revealed to me through reading the Old Testament. We certainly get that in the New Testament as well. I don't want to dim diminish that in any way, but it was really neat how God revealed it to me as walking through decade after decade of the Israelites. Kristen Wambach (15:21) Yeah. Mick (15:48) And at one point I'm like, man, what's wrong with these people? Like, why don't they just, why don't they just serve the Lord and everything goes well and fine? And then I had this, this like OMG moment where I was like, that's me. That's literally me. When things are going great, I don't cry out to God. This is sort of an older version of me, you know, as God revealed it. Mick (16:17) Because I'm like, yeah, things are good. What do I need God for? And and and it was a it's a subtle thing. I'm not suggesting that this was, you know, a a very cerebral decision that was made of like, great, things are great. I just got a good commission check or something. I don't need God, right? But when the screws in life are not being turned against you, if you're not in it for him, and if you're not sold out for him, at least in my experience, it was easy for me to pray. Mick (16:46) Every couple of days, myself, right? Again, my wife and I still praying at night, but sometimes those prayers would be more rote than others. You know what I mean? Sometimes it's a 20-minute prayer session. Sometimes it's a two-minute prayer session. There's a big difference between those, you know? so yeah, and and and and how he revealed his character to me was the following. Not only did he show me that I was the microcosm of the Israelites, they're a couple of million people. Mick (17:16) I'm just one, but our behavior patterns were the same. But then he also showed me that every time that they turned back to him, he's like, I've been waiting for you this whole time. I've loved you this whole time. All I want is for you to serve me, worship me. I have the best in mind for you if you will just do it my way. Kristen Wambach (17:19) Mm-hmm. Kristen Wambach (17:31) Mm-hmm. Yes. Kristen Wambach (17:40) Mm-hmm. Mick (17:43) And so coming back to what you opened with about Ephesians 2 10, as I began to see that like God was this loving God, that love was built into his character. Because anytime they went back to him, he loved them and he was like, Watch me sprinkle some blessing all over you, people. You know what I mean? Like massive blessing. I began to then see. Kristen Wambach (18:07) Mm. Mick (18:10) Man, every time I've run back to Jesus, it's been the same character that I have met, right? Meaning, I have met the same love. Absolutely, God has disciplined me over time. And scripture talks about that, right? He disciplines those that he loves and like a father that his children respect for actually doing that. Kristen Wambach (18:19) Mm-hmm. Mick (18:35) But at the same time, it's all been out of love. And that is so different from the God that I was aware of growing up. I understood God, if you can even use that phraseology, okay? I understood God as a kid. Kristen Wambach (18:46) Mm-hmm. Mick (18:55) To be this distant God, to be this disciplinarian, because he was frankly very much my father's behavior in my mind. I didn't have a relationship with my father. I had a loving household that I grew up in that still had chaos and those types of things. But I didn't have a lot of relationship with my father. I had support from my father. He drove me to every soccer game on planet Earth, but he didn't take an interest in soccer. That's kind of the distinction that I'm trying to make, right? Like there was support. Mick (19:25) But there wasn't a lot of intentional relationship there. And so growing up, I'm like, this God of the universe that supposedly created everything is distant and disciplinarian. And I'm not interested in that because I got a huge ego. Kristen Wambach (19:42) Hmm. I have a few questions rolling around in some of the things that you have shared with us. I c to say curious is not the right word because it doesn't seem honoring enough. Kristen Wambach (20:04) So in my personal testimony and Kristen Wambach (20:12) when I I I I just wanted to to ask you the story b behind when did you name Luke? At what point in time? And do you know the meaning of his name? Mick (20:26) Yeah. So this is go ahead. Mick (20:32) So I would say yes and no. Okay. So I welcome you to add some more insight to this. but my wife and I named our son Luke before we were Christians, okay? so he was in utero, and we like the name Luke. Full context. Kristen Wambach (20:37) Okay. Kristen Wambach (20:54) Mm-hmm. Mick (20:56) We were super big on two things, okay? We wanted to name our kid the name we were gonna call them. So meaning like we actually thought about naming our son Pete instead of Peter. It was gonna be like, this is whatever we're gonna call him, we're gonna call him that, name him that kind of thing, right? And then we also really liked one syllable names. Kristen Wambach (21:00) Yes. Kristen Wambach (21:10) Uh-huh. Kristen Wambach (21:15) Okay. Kristen Wambach (21:19) Mm-hmm. Mick (21:20) And so Luke fit into that really well. My wife was watching a movie. She was home super pregnant. We hadn't figured it all out. She sends me a text message and is like, how about the name Luke? And I was like, done. Kristen Wambach (21:34) Yes. Mick (21:36) But tell us about the meaning, because I think I know where you're gonna go with this. Kristen Wambach (21:41) Ooh i Well, his name means light giving. Kristen Wambach (21:51) And I I that just seemed I almost as if I could see the purpose behind father writing his name, but it was we would call it cursive. It was a fluid signature that the signature of of his blueprint for what he brings heaven and earth currently and forever eternally is still being written. Kristen Wambach (22:20) In your life. Mick (22:23) Yeah. I track on that. thank you for for sharing that. I understood it to be more on the healer side. I'm thinking of Luke the physician. but I really appreciate how you just defined it as life-giving. And I will I Kristen Wambach (22:40) Yeah. Light g L-I-G-H-T light giving. So you were naming him in his original creative being as a light giver. So not only is he a light being, he actually has the ability to give light. Mick (22:44) light giving. Okay. Mick (23:02) I'm really smiling for this because God has to get all the glory for that. Because what Luke's life did was change my life, my wife's life, and the lives of our three living children for eternity. Eternity. Kristen Wambach (23:22) Yes. Yes. Mick (23:24) And we see that we look at Luke's death as the single greatest, most tangible blessing that we have in our lives because his death brought us into relationship with Jesus Christ, right? We get to testify that King Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. And as a result of all of that. Mick (23:51) the environment with which our three living children were born Mick (23:56) Is so dramatically different than what it would have been. And our oldest is almost 13. She accepted Christ a c a couple of years ago. And our younger ones are identical twins. And they're seven, as you and I are having this conversation. And so they have not yet accepted Christ. But we pray for that regularly. And sort of back to what you and I were talking about a few minutes ago about like his will being done. We're like, look, we we know you desire this, we desire this. Mick (24:27) But let it be in your timing. You know what I mean? Because my conviction cannot be my son's convictions as much as I would love to impart that. You know what mean? Our kids' convictions are just not. Kristen Wambach (24:38) Yeah, I'm gonna change her wording, is that your sanctification journey is not the same as your children's. But they they they never fall out of sonship because the father is so brilliant and when he created, he got way ahead of his kids, so we couldn't outthink it. Mick (24:45) Yeah, well said. Mick (25:01) Yeah, that's awesome. Well, there's no question that Luke brought, or I should say, God brought light through Luke. Kristen Wambach (25:01) Yeah, yeah. Kristen Wambach (25:11) Yes, yes, and Kristen Wambach (25:16) I am gonna send you my book to read 'cause I have a story in there about a huge mistake. Kristen Wambach (25:29) And the blueprint behind that huge mistake. And yeah, it it it will just tie in some very important details with Luke from a heavenly perspective. How God call calls calls children to the generation of their parents. So Mick (25:46) Amen. Yeah, wow. Kristen Wambach (25:57) Very much so. So since we're being prophetically here and stirring up the the Kristen Wambach (26:05) the atmosphere, being should I say, more aware, even more aware of what Holy Spirit's doing and that, you know, we are ever surrounded with the angelic. Busy, busy, busy, busy, busy. When you and I were praying before this episode, before recording, I just was smiling. I just saw a picture. There is a laurel wreath. Mick (26:27) Yeah. Kristen Wambach (26:34) Or I might say if it's not a laurel wreath, it's an olive branch leaf because it's got brand new white flowers on the wreath, the head. So I look at that in you know, all the times that I have seen that, it is an award that's been recently given you. And so my question is. Mick (26:56) Wow. Kristen Wambach (27:00) It shows me that you have recently come through a victory. Are you able to share what that is? Mick (27:12) Well, I'll do my best because I'm not entirely sure. But as mentioned, you know, I continue to ask God to give us the prayers to pray, right? Meaning for my wife and then also for me. And one of the things that he had communicated was that the promised land that he has promised, and it has been very undefined. Mick (27:41) Okay. I'm saying that for everybody that's listening because he's been really clear that he's gonna do something, but he hasn't been very clear with what. And so he said to me, I want you to fight for that in prayer while fasting. Okay? Mick (28:03) Prayer and fasting, fasting and prayer, normal occurrence for me by God's grace, normal practice and behavior. And I sought him very earnestly. And essentially was just sort of declaring what he has said to be true, right? Not with much more context. This is like, I don't really know what we're talking about. What does this promised land look like? But I could declare, and this was truly. Mick (28:32) Kristen, one of those things where my faith was at an eleven for this. Okay. You know, like we know in Mark where Mick (28:43) the father is like, I do believe, but help my unbelief, right? I think that that faith, I used to look at it as like an on-off switch. I think it's more of like a a scale a little bit. You know what I mean? Sometimes it's a two, sometimes it's a four, sometimes it's a 10. This was an 11. Like I knew that what God said was going to occur was going to occur. And so I could declare that basically back to him. And this is not some name it and claim it thing. This is just he had given me. Kristen Wambach (29:03) Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mick (29:12) The faith to believe it, period. And so I'm just declaring like whatever this means, I know you're gonna do it. You're gonna do it in your time, but like you've said it, it is it is a yes and amen. I stand on that. So I seek him in prayer over many days, seek him in fasting and prayer over many different days. And then I asked him, is this Mick (29:39) The fighting, like, am I fighting the way you want me to fight? Okay. And his response was, yes, the victory is his, but he's given it to me. Now, I truly have no idea what the rest of that is or what the other details are. And and because of that, this sounds quite nebulous. So I would have otherwise never been sharing that. But you asked, you're like, Mick (30:06) There appears to be in the spirit realm a victory that has just occurred. And that's it. Because I mean, we're talking inside of the last, I guess, two weeks, because we were on vacation the last week, you know, and so there wasn't a lot of the prayer and fasting specifically because he had told me the prior week that it's done. Praise God. Praise God. Praise God. Kristen Wambach (30:33) So your wife hasn't been seeing or feeling it? You don't have pictures of it, journals of it? Okay. All right. Kristen Wambach (30:44) You're right. Yeah. Yeah. You do. You do. Mick (30:50) Sounds like you you have some awareness there. Kristen Wambach (30:53) Yeah. Kristen Wambach (30:57) graciously on my journey many times I have been allowed to see what was in the future and walk into it. And yes. And that changes that changes Kristen Wambach (31:21) all the time. That that changes, meaning that you don't again, because it's through relationship and my dependence on him to always go Kristen Wambach (31:34) Well, how'd you do this? Can you show me how to do this? And where does it where did it say that you experience this Jesus in your hundred percent humanity? Because I'm all over it. Cause I that I'm just all over it. If you experienced it, then you have the raw knowledge to be able to tell me in our humanness how you figured out how to, I'll say the change the molecular substance of it. Kristen Wambach (32:04) So that you could encounter it. We just assume a lot of times we forget how human that Jesus was. We assume that, he knew how to lay hands on the sick, he knew how to see Nathaniel under the tree. He knew how to walk on the water. No, he didn't. He had to pray fast. He had to apply himself to actually learn and know the Father in relationship. Yes, he could. Kristen Wambach (32:31) read about himself and the Father in the scrolls that are before him? Kristen Wambach (32:39) But you know, when he came up to the scrolls that he pulled out, you know, this day, you know, I am anointed to bring forth and heal the broken and bring forth sight to the blind. He had to agree with that so that when he came with the timing of that day, so he'd go, I am talking about me here. Kristen Wambach (33:03) We assume, we assume that he he kind of like God gave him a little bit of sticky note for the day, and this is what's going on, son. No, no, no. He had to already know and come into agreement so that he could recognize himself on that day when the timing placed his scroll right in front of his people, the people who he's called to. That gives me great courage. Mick (33:03) Pretty wild. Kristen Wambach (33:33) To teach me. This is the reason why I want to sit at your feet because I want you to teach me this stuff. Yeah. Mick (33:40) Yeah. There is something powerful about sitting at his feet. And you know, a year ago I didn't have a great sense for what that meant. But the more that I have done it, meaning for me, it's been in scripture and on my knees in prayer at the same time. Kristen Wambach (33:45) Mm-hmm. Mick (34:09) And then asking and waiting and praying and waiting and being quiet and waiting and asking and praising. You know what I mean? And not trying to get through, I got I got seven minutes before I gotta go do something, you know what I mean? And and just being there and waiting. Kristen Wambach (34:31) Yeah. Mick (34:37) And there's been times when he's taken me into Deuteronomy 28, and I'm like, what? Like then you just see stuff totally differently, or Exodus 12, you know, like just and and then I'm reading it again. And I'm like, man, I've read this many times before. Many times. And then all of a sudden you're like, whoa, wait a second. It says that. This is an Exodus. It says that. Mick (35:02) I'm gonna have you go over so that your back is up against the Red Sea because I'm gonna get glory. And this is where I'm thinking, this is God, God talking in my paraphrase. I'm thinking he's gonna say from the Israelites. Like his, you know, like I'm gonna deliver you. You know what mean? But he goes, I'm gonna get glory from the Egyptians. And I'm like, wait a second, what? I've read this countless times before. Mick (35:31) But it's the revelation, right? And then he helps me understand why. Well, because they're the literal superpower of that time period. And that country is filled with nothing but gods, up to and including their king. And God's going, These people have nothing on me. And I'm gonna show them that. Kristen Wambach (35:44) Mm-hmm. Kristen Wambach (35:58) Mm-hmm. Mick (35:59) I'm God. And it's going to be so incredible. They're going to glorify me. And I'm like, whoa. And so that helps me then, as you and I have talked a tiny bit about like sonship. And it's like, okay, he is fully God. And I am so not. You know what I mean? Like that fear of God just being the beginning of wisdom is so wonderful for me to just go, I don't know, but he does. Mick (36:25) And I'm gonna ask him, I'm gonna trust him, and I know that he's got it. And then it also allows me to look at my life in the context of Ephesians 2:10 and go, You created me. I must automatically have value to you. I mean, think about it. Let let's just have fun here for a second, okay? Because I got seven-year-olds. They love Lagos, okay? Kristen Wambach (36:40) Mm-hmm. Mick (36:51) They're not gonna create something out of Legos that they're not interested in. You know what I mean? They're not gonna create something that they think is totally meaningless. Because we've all know, like you get an a you get a Lego kit, you get 10 Lego kits, and then eventually what do you have? A giant bucket of Legos, right? So you don't build the kit anymore. Mick (37:12) You then begin to build out of your creativity. You're not gonna build something and create something from essentially nothing that you don't care about. You just don't do it, right? And then I know even further from the way Ephesians 2.10 is laid out, right? That not only was I created, but I'm created as his handiwork. Some other translations talk about it as his masterpiece. So then I know, right? I this is literally where I get my identity from. Like Ephesians 2.10 is huge for me. Mick (37:42) Because I'm created and I'm created beautifully, right? As handiwork, craftsmanship. And then it tells me I'm created on purpose to do things that he is prepared in advance for me to do. And so then I'm like, then truly my question began to be to him: what are those things? What are those things? Kristen Wambach (38:01) Mm-hmm. Kristen Wambach (38:08) Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mick (38:10) Because I'm like, he'll reveal them to me. And that's where the coincidence or God show came from. Because he moved me out of the workforce and was like, go do that. And admittedly, I think there are many people that don't have the degree of clarity that I have. Okay. And it is entirely by God's grace that he made it that clear. Right? But Kristen Wambach (38:15) Mm-hmm. Kristen Wambach (38:20) Absolutely. Mick (38:36) There's plenty of things that we do on a daily basis that are still absolutely the things that he prepared in advance for us to do, like being his hands and feet, right? Treating people with love, treating people with respect and with kindness, right? Disciplining with love, all right. All of these types of things that might seem to be just normal for a Christian, right? It still all has value. Mick (39:02) And I'll just kind of close out my thoughts here on Ephesians 2.10. So I I love this verse, as hopefully you can see coming through with my my emphasis. But what is so neat to me is how it sits at the bookend of Ephesians 2, 1 through 9, where the context of this is hey, buddy, you're a sinner. Kristen Wambach (39:14) Mm-hmm. Mick (39:27) And there's nothing that you and your ego and your pride and your works could do to save yourself. You are saved by grace through faith in Christ Jesus. And so I'm like, man, it's so sobering to look at one through nine and then to get there, and it's just like, wow, the the 10th verses. And despite all of that. Mick (39:56) I created you on purpose because I love you. And I'm like, man, that that just literally speaks to my soul, that block of text. And I'm so grateful that God has given us scripture and and me that particular because he gives other people other text that is like that speaks to their DNA. You know what I mean? And and this one does for me. And he gets all the glory for that. It's so wonderful to look at that for me. Kristen Wambach (40:15) Mm-hmm. Mick (40:26) And be humbled and gracious and filled with gratitude because of how good he is. Kristen Wambach (40:34) So when you're you have listeners, Mick has a little signboard back on his bookshelf that I can see here as we're talking on this video recording and it says pray, wait, trust. Do they ever change places? Mick (40:57) Hmm. Yeah, there's probably some times where it's it's more weight, you know, and trust. Mick (41:06) And a bit more of wonder. And sometimes the wonder turns to another W word. It turns to worry. And then I'm like, wait a second, I gotta go get back at his feet. And I mean, we're the this could be app happening in the midst of a five-minute period of time, right? Or a five-hour block of time, or over multiple days. I find myself occasionally, I used to do this much more consistently, but I find myself now, Kristen, occasionally. Mick (41:36) Thinking versus praying. I used to think all the time and not pray. And I even thought that because I was thinking about stuff that would matter to God, I was almost praying. And then it was like close enough. And it totally wasn't close enough. Because the praying in the way in which I pray has really been dramatically different for me in my relationship with Jesus Christ. Mick (42:05) Let me explain that so that that does not sound egocentric, prideful, or anything other than those things. Okay. What I mean is that I used to do nearly all of my praying seated. And what I found was most of the time, it just felt like words. But when I got Mick (42:32) On my knees, and I put my face into the chair or into my couch, it changed everything in terms of like the veracity of my prayer, like how earnestly I was seeking him. And it also put me into this physical position of where I'm like, I'm surrendered to you. Mick (43:01) You know, and and and I've been so grateful for that. And then as with sanctification and growth and continuing to seek him, that progressed to where I just started praying in public on my knees. And that was like a big step. But we happened to be on a mission trip in New York. Kristen Wambach (43:01) Mm-hmm. Mick (43:24) And we went to Manhattan for one of the evenings and I'm standing in Junior's, which is this cheesecake place, and we're inside and I look out and there is a Muslim man in the middle of the street praying. Mick (43:44) And I thought to myself, if he can do that, I can pray to the God of the universe too in public. And so it's just been this progression of more submission, including in the physical position of like, I'm literally on my knees. And the prayers for me are different. Kristen Wambach (43:51) Mm-hmm. Kristen Wambach (44:03) Mm-hmm. Kristen Wambach (44:14) I love it. Kristen Wambach (44:17) I get I get inst I I I cued a very famous song on my phone yesterday. And my phone is over there on Do Not Disturb I was kind of like, okay, I need help remembering. What was the song? I need to help remembering. I I'm gonna go get my phone here for just a second here. Cause I I don't remember it. Kristen Wambach (44:48) But it just it feels highlighted for me to to share a a prayer point that I asked God last night I I need more of this. And I hope it's still cute right there. Where is she? I gotta get to the words. I don't remember. Kristen Wambach (45:17) Just second. I'm gonna get to the words. Kristen Wambach (45:27) Yeah, there they were. Ooh, yeah. It still has it queued in my Huh. Kristen Wambach (45:37) So the song, the song was, and I'm I don't remember. I was sitting outside. I don't remember what the the Holy Spirit avenue of how he he brought it to the forefront of my attention yesterday. Kristen Wambach (45:57) But I kept looping it, this one section, and I know all the listeners would be very familiar with it. And the song is The Truth by Megan Woods. And it's just wonderful, her deep voice, but there was a line in there that says, The truth is I am my father's child. I make him proud and I make him smile. Mick (46:08) Mm, yeah. Mick (46:22) Make him smile. Yep. I was ri made in the image of the perfect king who looks at me and wouldn't change a thing. Kristen Wambach (46:27) Unless I I was laying there in bed and I I said the father and I said I need more experience with that. Kristen Wambach (46:41) 'Cause I I don't have the the natural story. Kristen Wambach (46:49) to have that as a natural a natural journey in my life. So all of a sudden I was aware of it, wow, I I I need more of this story, need more of witnessing you and your pleasure and being proud and smiling at me effortlessly. So I I just felt like that was just Kristen Wambach (47:18) Really important to share. Because not all of us, you know, had a tremendous racial relationship with a father figured. So sometimes we is we don't know what we're missing. We don't even know how to ask for it or even have the expectation in our listen listening. Mick (47:32) Right. Kristen Wambach (47:42) To hear him sing how proud he is of us, and that we make him smile. Kristen Wambach (47:59) How does that make you feel? Mick (48:01) You know, the first time I heard that song, I can actually remember exactly where I was because I hadn't heard it and it was so powerful to me. I literally was taking my three kids to art and art art class, and I was literally crying as she's singing the song because it is exactly the title of. Mick (48:28) And the phrase she uses over and over again, the truth. It is the truth. And you talked about it, I've experienced it. That this idea that our earthly fathers and the relationship that we have had with them may have never revealed any of that character of the king, right? God the Father may have never been revealed to them. Mick (48:55) In that way, just with the behavior, you know? And so it brings me to tears because one, I know it to be true. And then two, I'm so blessed by how he's given me some of that to give to my children. What I mean by this is because I didn't come up with this. I'm the only one that I know that's ever said it because it's come out of my mouth, but it wasn't me. For whatever reason, God has literally told me or given given me these words, which is, and I say it to my children. Mick (49:25) And regularly, I have loved you from the moment I found out about you. That's what I tell them, to the extent that they can complete the sentence. Meaning, you weren't even born yet. You were in mom's belly, and I loved you. We loved you. And now that they're all old enough and really can understand God to the degree that we can, right? Mick (49:53) I'm like, and think about it. God has literally loved you for eternity. I'm like, and that's incredible. That's amazing. Like, we can't even wrap our heads around that. He's known us forever, loved us forever. I have loved you from the moment I found out about you. And when they do something good, I'll oftentimes remind them that their value is not based upon the fact that they did something good. Mick (50:23) I just love you inherently. So congratulations, but this doesn't change my love for you because I just love you, you know? And when I'm disciplining them because they've done something that they shouldn't have done, I mean, my kids all get along really well, but they totally have their moments, you know? And so it's like, look, I love you. And your behavior is never gonna put our relationship at risk. Mick (50:52) But there are consequences for your actions. And so I'm saying all of this just because when we as the adults get to experience God's love as the father that you're talking about, I think it makes it a lot easier for us to behave as a pipe. Mick (51:18) And not a bucket, and to let that grace flow to us and through us as opposed to just to us. And I can give him all the credit for that because, Kristen, I didn't learn that except from him. You know what I mean? And I was just asked this question. It was rhetorical, so it came to me rhetorically as part of a conversation that I was having. But the the question that was being asked was: how do you see God? Mick (51:48) And I started to to conjure that, like the actual image, like, what do you think of? And I was like, I see him as my dad. Like, crawl up on his lap. And that's so different than how I described earlier in our conversation, where I'm like, distant, disciplinarian, you stay up there. I'm down here. I'm gonna do my thing with my pride of my ego. And as long as we keep our distance, everything will be fine. Kristen Wambach (52:00) Mm-hmm. Kristen Wambach (52:05) Mm-hmm. Mick (52:17) And what he has shown me over the years is exactly what I tell my kids. It's like I've I've loved you forever. And the way he's revealed that is by showing me that from that avalanche that you talked about back in 2000, so I hated him then actively. Like this was not passive, I'm not in a relationship with God. No, no, no, no. Wanted nothing to do with him. Make no bones about that. Kristen Wambach (52:34) Mm-hmm. Mick (52:46) We need to be clear about that. I hated him. And my ego and my pride drove me into a position, literal position, physical position, where I should have died. Okay. I trigger the avalanche that will kill me. And he saves me from that. And 24 and a half years later, he revealed to me. Mick (53:14) Helped me see, helped me to understand. Because that even when you hated me, I still loved you. And that just wrecked me. And by wrecked, I mean it just literally brings me to this like empty, humbled-out space of like, what do I have left to give to you because of how gracious you have been to me, other than my entire life? Like you have. Mick (53:44) You have created me. You have saved my physical life. You have saved my soul for eternity. What can I possibly do in response to that than just give you my entire being? So I didn't deserve any of that. Mick (54:14) He's loved me. He's loved me. Even when I've hated him. And that is true for everyone that hears this. That's not just limited to me. Mick (54:33) If you don't have a relationship with Jesus Christ, know that he loves you. He loves you. Mick (54:42) No matter your sin, no matter how bad you think it is, Kristen Wambach (54:57) Before we start tying our time together, can you share with us another personal aha moment? I mean the avalanche is something. You are the actually the person that triggered it? Mick (55:12) yeah. Kristen Wambach (55:17) Yeah. Tr triggered it of your awareness that God never said your correctness of life changed any of the value that you are. Those are high high paraphrased from what you said about your own kids. Then he never did that to you. That's why now because you know him, you can express that to your children. Mick (55:49) Yeah, do I have other examples of that? you know, I I don't think that I have a specific example that is perhaps that episodic, you know, but yeah. Yeah. Kristen Wambach (56:01) Can can I change my request then? Would you lead us in prayer to release the depth of that? Mick (56:18) Sure. Mick (56:21) Yeah, wow. That is quite the invitation, Kristen. Praise God. Let's do it. Man. Father God, King Jesus, Holy Spirit. We are seeking more of you. We are seeking more of you. Mick (56:44) We recognize that you are holy. Father God, hallowed be your name. Hallowed be your name. Mick (56:52) We fully see you as God and that we are not, that we are created and subject to you, and yet we know that you created us in love. And so we are coming to you earnestly desiring to understand the way in which you look at us as your children who are loved. We want to know this more. We want to feel this in ways that we have never felt it, in ways that we have never experienced. Mick (57:22) It. And so, Holy Spirit, I ask that you would speak to everybody that hears this prayer. Speak it into their minds, whisper it into their ears. Father God, if you would be audible with them, have it be your way, the way that will impact them, Lord. But we ask that that you would allow us more of your depth here and the depth of your love. Mick (57:48) As it relates to the daughters and the sons that are coming after you in this prayer, we want to experience you and your love in a deeper way and a more full way than we ever have before. Literally, God, as if we can crawl into your lap as a four-year-old and you can tussle our hair or squeeze us tight. Mick (58:16) And look at us and smile. And just let us know and experience the love that we know you have for us. We ask this in the name of Jesus. Please, Father, please give us more of you. And thank you for giving us life. We give ours back to you in Jesus' name. Amen. Kristen Wambach (58:47) Nick, I'm going to ask I'm going to give you a prompt on your own prayer. Kristen Wambach (58:55) Would you lead us through a type of repentance or forgiveness part? Because I sensed that there are many times in our own lives where we're triggering our own avalanches. And that needs to stop. And I I I saw you on your knees, and if you would. Kristen Wambach (59:25) Help us to walk through that forgiveness of how many times we trigger our own stuff. Mick (59:35) Okay. Man, what a wonderful opportunity. Praise God. Praise God. Father God, King Jesus, Holy Spirit, we are back from more of you. Man, we are we are coming to you with the expressed intent, Lord, for the forgiveness of our sins. Mick (01:00:05) Father, I ask that for all of those people that hear this prayer, myself included, Kristen included, that the blood of the Lamb would wash us clean of our sins. Lord, we repent, we repent from our sin. We repent from the behaviors that Mick (01:00:29) You know about where we continue to return like a dog to its vomit, where we go back to the things that we know we shouldn't, and we are crying out now for your Mick (01:00:44) Direction to move us away from that and for your forgiveness and redemption of that terrible behavior and a washing of that sin in Jesus' name. We plead the blood of the Lamb over this current generation with the sins that we are asking to be forgiven. And we plead the blood of. Mick (01:01:09) Over the generations of sin that have come before us. We repent of prior generations worth of sin, and in Jesus' name we ask for the breaking of strongholds. Mick (01:01:24) We ask for the redemption of those generational sins in Jesus' name and we repent in Jesus' name and we pray for the blood of the Lamb to be washed over all of that and of all the space that has been cleansed out. Holy Spirit, we ask that you would go into that space and fill it. Fill it with your presence, fill it with your goodness. Mick (01:01:52) And have us in this current generation experience that change, experience the washing of our sins. What can wash away our sins? Nothing. Nothing. Nothing but the blood. And so we plead the blood in Jesus' name. Mick (01:02:12) Over our sins, and we receive your forgiveness in that. We receive your forgiveness. And if there is any forgiveness, Father, that needs to occur, Holy Spirit, I ask that you would prompt those that are not forgiving. Prompt those that are not forgiving to humble themselves, follow Jesus' instruction, and forgive. Mick (01:02:41) Forgive so that the Father forgives. Let us all forgive since we are forgiven in Jesus' name. Amen. Kristen Wambach (01:02:58) Thank you. Thank you. And so I bring I bring my my prompting of the song because this is our reward for when we do something that feels like it's hard. Sometimes it's it's hard to give up a trigger or behavior that hasn't been serving us very well. And this is our reward, this is our gift. Kristen Wambach (01:03:27) The truth is I am my father's child. I make him proud and he makes me smile. I was made in the image of a perfect king. He looks at me and he wouldn't change a thing. Kristen Wambach (01:03:57) Listeners, you you you know what I call this. This is one of those pregnant pauses. Please you have permission to just put it on pause and hang with what it feels like, what you what is being immersed in you, what is being washed through you, the giggles, the laughters. Thank you. Kristen Wambach (01:04:27) Thank you so very much. Kristen Wambach (01:04:33) And I think when I'll just keep the music going in this particular portion. Thank you, Mick, for Kristen Wambach (01:04:46) Allowing me to pull the anointing that's on your life. Mick (01:04:54) Wow. It's been a pleasure, Kristen. Thank you. Kristen Wambach (01:05:02) Now listeners, I will I'm I'm gonna ask him how remind us the name of your brand new branded show. Mick (01:05:14) Yeah, coincidence or God. And you can check it out on YouTube or any of the other platforms where you would grab your podcast. Kristen Wambach (01:05:16) Yes. Kristen Wambach (01:05:23) Yes. And they can connect with you on social media and your website is Mick (01:05:30) Yep, website is coincidence or god dot com, and we're on all of the social handles as well. Kristen Wambach (01:05:37) That's wonderful. Hmm. Thank you. There just there just aren't words for when we just need to go shh. Mick (01:05:44) Truly a pleasure. Kristen Wambach (01:05:54) I bless you. The Performance Trap of Modern FaithFor decades, high-capacity leaders, driven professionals, and successful entrepreneurs have subconsciously run on a hidden spiritual treadmill. We bring our corporate metrics, our execution checklists, and our relentless grip on control straight into our prayer closets. We call Him Lord on Sunday, but by Monday morning, our prayers subtly shift into a transactional checklist. We ask Him to bless our targets, smooth over our communication breakdowns, and fund our self-made provision. We turn the Creator of the universe into a high-level executive assistant—a "genie in a bottle" designed to execute our goals. But what happens when the sovereign God of heaven decides to dismantle the performance engine entirely? In this raw, uncompromised conversation on the Interviewing Jesus Podcast, host Kristen Wambach sits down with international podcaster Mick Wienholt to peel back the layers of religious striving and explore what it truly means to live subject to, not central. The Phrase That Undid an Executive MindsetMick spent years climbing the ladder of corporate executive sales, managing massive budgets as a Senior Vice President, and operating as the sole breadwinner for his family. He was handy, tenacious, and anchored in the natural human logic that every problem could be solved with pure grit. Even after a devastating stillbirth in 2012 crushed his old identity and brought him into an authentic relationship with Christ, the background tracking software of "performance-driven faith" was still silently running. Then came 2023. While sitting in a church pew, the Holy Spirit dropped a jarring, disruptive pattern interrupt into his spirit: "Because you are a created being, you are subject to, not central in, your own life." Human Logic: My effort + God's backing = My success. Kingdom Law: God's sovereignty + My submission = His glory This single deposit completely re-educated Mick's entire operating system. He realized that even his well-meaning, structured prayers were completely centered around himself. True alignment required a total dismantle. The transactional "What would Jesus do?" mindset had to die so that the deeper, outcome-focused reality of sonship could take over. CONNECT WITH MICK WIENHOLTPosture, Post-Trauma, and the Family TreeWhen we move past our need for correctness, Jesus begins to rewrite our absolute reality—not just patch up our trauma. During the episode, a stunning moment of prophetic revelation occurs when Kristen highlights the eternal blueprint behind Mick’s history. Years before they surrendered to Christ—back when Mick actively harbored an intense hatred toward God—he and his wife named their first-born son Luke. They chose it simply because they liked one-syllable names. They didn't know that Luke literally means "Light-giving." Though Luke was delivered as a full-term stillborn baby, his brief assignment permanently altered the trajectory of their entire family tree. His death shattered Mick's pride, brought him to his knees, and opened a safe path for his three living children to grow up in a household entirely saturated by the presence of God. The Father’s cursive signature was being written over their lives long before they ever knew how to read the scrolls of Scripture. Noted Song: The Truth by Megan WoodsMoving From a Bucket to a Pipe The ultimate payoff of dismantling your performance engine is a radical transition in how you view the Father. You stop treating Him like a distant, demanding disciplinarian and begin to experience Him simply as a Dad. Mick shares how this absolute security changed the physical cadence of his life. He stopped praying from a comfortable, seated position where words felt empty, and began putting his face directly into the floorboards. That private, physical surrender unlocked an uncompromised freedom—allowing him to drop to his knees on a crowded sidewalk in Manhattan, completely unmasked before the world. When you step into true sonship, you stop functioning like a "bucket" desperately trying to hold onto validation, and you become a "pipe" that effortlessly lets grace flow through your life to the world around you. The pressure is completely gone. The victory is already won. You can finally put down your corporate targets, crawl right onto your Father's lap, and rest in the fact that He looks at you and wouldn’t change a single thing. What can wash away our sins? Nothing. Nothing. Nothing but the blood. And so we plead the blood in Jesus' name." — Mick Wienholt" COACHING CHURCH ACTIVATIONSThe "Face-in-the-Floorboards" AuditThe hidden tragedy of a high-capacity life is that we easily mistake thinking about God for actually praying to Him. We sit comfortably in our offices or living rooms, running human logic metrics over our schedules, checking off our tasks, and calling it spiritual traction. But on a practical Monday morning, true sonship requires that we completely dismantle our internal performance engines and step into absolute submission. This week, you are getting off the treadmill of self-sufficiency. We are moving from a seated, cerebral religion into a visceral, postural encounter with the King. Step 1: Identify Your "Central" Engine Take an honest look at your current prayer requests, your business targets, or your family anxieties. Ask the Holy Spirit to shine a flashlight on where you are using human grit to protect your own outcomes.
Find a private space this week. Do not sit down. Do not stand up. Explicitly get flat on your knees, slide your face directly down into the floorboards or the couch, and physically throw your hands out in complete, unmasked surrender. Step 3: Release the Script While in that physical posture of absolute submission, pray this specific script out loud to break the background anxiety of control: "Father, I am a created being. I am entirely subject to you, and I refuse to be central in my own life anymore. I stop trying to fix the facts of my environment with my own grit. I put down my performance metrics, I tear up my checklist, and I crawl right onto your lap as your child. I am a pipe, not a bucket—let your grace flow through me effortlessly today. Your will be done, Lord. Give me the prayers to pray." Step 4: Sit and Wait Once you have prayed, remain quiet in that posture for five minutes. Do not manage the clock. Stop thinking, stop scheming, and simply allow the background settings of your mind to settle into His absolute goodness. Write down any precise, raw promptings or scriptures He deposits into your spirit.

Grab a cup of coffee, dive into the activations, and let's get ready to live Spiritually BRAVE! Blessings, Kristen FINAL THOUGHTS & SUMMARYEpisode 292 of the Interviewing Jesus Podcast stands as an absolute pattern interrupt for the modern believer caught in the exhausting matrix of high-achievement and performance-driven faith. In this raw, uncompromised conversation, Kristen Wambach and international podcaster Mick Wienholt pull back the curtain on what happens when executive grit is completely dismantled by Kingdom reality.
Mick unzips his profound personal journey—from causing a catastrophic avalanche in 2000 to navigating the deep grief of losing his full-term stillborn son, Luke, in 2012. He exposes the exact moment in 2023 when the Holy Spirit broke through his self-made identity with a single, disruptive phrase: "Because you are a created being, you are subject to, not central in, your own life." This episode bypasses shallow, polite religious checklists to reveal a deep-dive blueprint for true inner transformation. By exploring the mathematical wonder of a redeemed timeline, defining the eternal legacy of a child named "Light-giving," and modeling real-time postural surrender, this conversation proves that when our earthly frameworks are shattered, the resulting void is never empty—it is entirely full of the effortless goodness of God. Call to Action If you are bone-weary from trying to fund your own spiritual provision, check performance boxes, or protect your own outcomes, it is time to dismantle the engine of religious striving. The pressure is completely off, the victory has already been won, and your true identity as a son or daughter is securely held by the King. Step beyond the gates of survival and truly experience heaven on a practical Monday morning:

Between you and me, the royalties on a printed book are much smaller, but the impact is so much greater. I want you to have the version that lets you "suit up" and engage.
