Stop Just Praying| The 5 Daily Steps to Fix Your Body, Mind, & Spirit with Dr. Len Lopez ❖ 24411/12/2025
Welcome to the Interviewing Jesus Podcast blog, where we pursue Christian spiritual growth and Divine wisdom! I’m your host, Kristen Wambach, and today, we’re unpacking powerful biblical insights with Dr. Len Lopez to understand how we can live a truly balanced, Spirit-led life. We are the temple of God, and as Dr. Lopez reminds us, a temple has many rooms—Body, Mind, and Spirit—all requiring intentional upkeep. 📝 SummaryIn this insightful episode, host Kristen Wambach and Dr. Len Lopez explore his "Five Steps a Day" framework, designed to help listeners assess and improve their daily habits concerning their Body, Mind, and Spirit. Dr. Lopez emphasizes that true health requires balancing physical actions (eating right, training smart) with mental habits (thinking better) and spiritual nourishment (working spiritual muscles). Key discussions include the importance of vision and destination (the "Sleep" step, where you visualize your goals until you feel the emotion), the role of digestive health as a "first domino" in overall well-being, and the necessity of positive self-talk to counteract the tendency toward negative thoughts. The framework provides a simple, visual, and non-judgmental way to track progress and become "bigger, better, bolder." CONNECT WITH DR. LEN LOPEZTo neglect your spirit is like skipping a meal. It's going to leave you empty. And so if you can just find time, 10, 15, 20, 30 minutes, whatever it is for you... that's what I'm hoping people will recognize." —Dr. Len Lopez The Foundation: Habits and Attitude as Your DNA Dr. Lopez’s journey, spanning 25 years in health and fitness, revealed a profound truth: physical problems rarely exist in a vacuum. His creation, the Five Steps a Day framework, is a simple, visual tool designed to track how you are feeding your entire being. He states that your habits and attitude are your DNA; they are the code that determines your success or your struggles. Dr. Lopez notes: “Your habits and attitude are like your DNA. It's your genetic code... you may see that maybe some of your accomplishments and achievements in life, that your habits and attitude were in a more positive direction for your overall growth.” By tracking your steps, you get the essential "data" to course-correct and become bigger, better, bolder. This commitment is a powerful component of your faith journey. Step 1: Sleep—The Map to Your Land of Milk and HoneyWe often think of sleep simply as rest, but Dr. Lopez elevates it to a spiritual and mental exercise. The "Sleep" step asks: Did you sleep with a smile on your face? This is about more than eight hours; it’s about visualization. Before drifting off, you must focus and visualize your personal "Land of Milk and Honey"—the destination, the goal, or the person God calls you to be. As I shared on the episode, we must: “Stay in that place until you can feel that tangible emotion, whether it's an enjoyment, whether it's an affirmation, whether it's just this little nugget that Holy Spirit gives you. Stay in that emotion.” This process programs your subconscious mind to chew on your destination for seven to eight hours. If you don't know where you are going, Dr. Lopez warns, you might end up in the land of heartaches and headaches. This conscious dreaming is a key practice for connecting with God and aligning your desires with His. The "Eat" step is not about perfection, but direction. We discussed the common mistake of waiting too long to eat after waking up. When your blood sugar drops, your body produces stress hormones (cortisol) just as if you were worried. This brings us to a critical finding from his practice: digestive health is the first domino in a vicious cycle of fatigue, hormonal imbalance, and sugar cravings. Proper nutrition is an essential part of Spirit-led living podcast. Similarly, "Train Smart" recognizes that exercise is a stressor. For many, especially the deconditioned, jogging too fast can actually elevate stress hormones, working against their goals. Practical spirituality podcast means understanding your body's limits and training in a way that minimizes cortisol spikes. As the ancient philosopher reminds us: “To keep the body in good health is a duty… otherwise we shall not be able to keep the mind strong and clear.” (Buddha). BINGE LISTEN
Step 4 & 5: Think Better and Work Your Spiritual MusclesThe mental and spiritual steps are where the profound healing and transformation podcast occurs. Researchers suggest we process 50,000 thoughts a day, with about 80% being negative repeats from the day before. The "Think Better" step is your spiritual intervention. It encourages small, positive affirmations throughout the day—a minute here, a minute there—to counteract the negative narrative. As an experienced spiritual coach, I love the concept of putting in "drops" of positive thinking until it creates a “big stain” of confidence. Finally, "Work Your Spiritual Muscles" acknowledges that strengthening your faith is like lifting weights—it requires consistency. Dr. Lopez states, “To neglect your spirit is like skipping a meal. It's going to leave you empty. And so if you can just find time, 10, 15, 20, 30 minutes, whatever it is for you... that's what I'm hoping people will recognize.” This doesn't mean only reading scripture; it includes fellowship, service, listening to Christian music, and simply finding time for Conversations with Jesus. This approach affirms that “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” (Aristotle). Applying biblical principles starts with disciplined self-care. The Five Steps are a powerful, visual way to take charge of your life, enabling you to step into the empowering faith messages God has for you. Stay in that place until you can feel that tangible emotion, whether it's an enjoyment, whether it's an affirmation, whether it's just this little nugget that Holy Spirit gives you. Stay in that emotion." —Kristen Wambach
