​The Raw Story: Trapped on the Sidelines

For years, religion convinced many of us that our relationship with God had to operate like an endless audition. We wake up, look at our track record, and quietly bench ourselves. We think: Once I fix this habit, once I pray an hour every morning, once my thoughts stop racing, then I will be qualified to run onto the field.
We sit on the spiritual bench, watching everyone else seemingly make big kingdom plays, while our hearts carry a quiet, persistent ache: Where do I actually stand with God? What does He truly feel when He looks at me?
I have sat on that bench. I know what it feels like to carry unexpressed longings and unspoken fears, hiding behind sterile spiritual phrases because being raw with the Creator feels too risky. But religious performance never produces peace. Striving cannot purchase intimacy. God never asked you to present a polished, pristine resume—He asked for your honest heart.

The Jesus Conversation & Scriptural Anchor

When Jesus turned to the crowd in John 6:35-36, He did not hand down an impossible 20-step checklist to earn His favor. He said simply:

"I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. But as I told you, you have seen me and still you do not believe."

Jesus said, I am the bread of life. He that comes face to face with me shall never hunger, and he who finds his faith resting in me shall never thirst. But even though you have seen me, you are not persuaded. (You might be happy with the healings and be entertained by the signs, but still you fail to understand who I am. I’m not here to impress you with me. I’m here to persuade you about you. Your sonship is what I am all about. And the only way that I can persuade you about you is to take you with me into your death and darkness and overcome your fear and hell and birth you again into newness of life in my resurrection.) Notice His diagnosis: the issue was never lack of effort; it was an unwillingness to be persuaded of His Goodness. We hunger and thirst because we keep snacking on worldly affirmation and religious validation. But Jesus presents Himself as the finished substance.
When you sit down with Him—not in a lecture hall, but in the living room of His presence—He asks the direct question: "What do you truly want Me to reveal to you?"
His kindness is not waiting at the finish line of your perfection. His kindness meets you at the line of scrimmage. Kindness and Goodness do not merely answer intellectual arguments; they dissolve your doubt from the inside out.
