Hello there! If you've just happened upon this episode, let me offer a bit of context. Picture a Baptist Farm Girl, raised on a sprawling 92 acre farm, surrounded by three brothers. That's me. Now, imagine that same girl tumbling headfirst into what I like to call the enigmatic journey of Christ's spiritual nature. I was once spiritually sightless, but thanks to the luminous and profound love of God, I've been granted the ability to perceive the spiritual realm. I've traversed the celestial expanses above and the earthly domains below. Yes, I've even glimpsed into hell, sheol, and tartarus. Just to put names to the places. And don't worry, I've included the corresponding scriptures in the Show Notes for your reference. We're on our 164th episode now, which I think safely classifies me as a podcaster. This venture started somewhat tentatively on October 15th, 2018, before I fully committed on June 9th, 2021. Now, here's a thought for you: Is there something in your life that Jesus is nudging you to transform from a lukewarm interest to a burning commitment? BINGE LISTEN
The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate.—Oprah Winfrey SCRIPTURE TREASURESThe word tartarus appears in the Bible in 2 Peter 2:4-6 and Jude 6. The Greek word is often translated as "hell" or "lowest hell" in English versions of the Bible, but it refers to a temporary place of confinement for fallen angels who have sinned. In this context, tartarus can be defined as "the deepest abyss of Hades". In 2 Peter 2:4, the Bible says, "For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to hell (tartarus) and delivered them into chains of darkness reserved for judgment". Some interpret this to mean that angels who rebelled against God by intermarrying with human women, or who were cast from heaven with Lucifer, are being punished in tartarus. Jude 1:6 also mentions angels who "abandoned their proper dwelling" in heaven and were cast into tartarus for judgment, "in pits of gloom". Tartarus also has a history in Greek mythology, where it was originally used to refer to the deepest part of the underworld, where the gods imprisoned their enemies. Over time, the term came to refer to the entire underworld. In some Greek sources, tartarus is another name for Hades, while in others it is a separate realm. Hesiod famously described tartarus as being as far below the underworld as the earth is below the sky. I think, at a child's birth, if a mother could ask a fairy godmother to endow it with the most useful gift, that gift should be curiosity. —Eleanor Roosevelt
